AP/VD always in charge of lightening watch

On property protocols when lightening is occurring in the area:

• 10 miles away from property - Must clear out all guests and get them safely to their vehicles

• 8 miles away - All programs will be postponed or cancelled at that time

• 6 miles away - FLSLE closed to the public. Staff must seek shelter inside.

Programs will first be postponed but potentially cancelled depending on how long the storm takes to pass. National Lightning Standard states the most recent strike must be 10 miles away and 30 min passed before going back outside/in the water.

Due to FLSLE being a marine mammal facility with large bodies of water and metal for animal habitats, guests must evacuate to their vehicles for safety when protocols are applied. 

If a program is cancelled due to weather the guests have one of three options:

• Reschedule for another day

• Receive a partial refund

• Full refund on a gift card
